The Heart of Teahupoo

I wanted to come back on a post i did a few years ago about Teahupoo. Teahupoo, also known as ‘Chopes, is located on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti. The largest and main island of French Polynesia, Tahiti, is situated in the eastern South Pacific Ocean. Tahiti is pretty much in the middle of South America and Australia. If you have ever flown from Los Angeles, CA to Auckland, NZ, then you flew right over Tahiti. Are you ready for your next surf trip? Teahupoo is a world-class reef break spitting out left-handed barrels that will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up straight. The main circus attraction of Teahupoo is when the tow-in surfers get a whiff of big swell. Any significant swell will turn this place into a surfer frenzy. Here is a picture of what Teahupoo looks like when the pro-surfer circus rolls into town. Source : http://www.surfblogspot.com/

Of the British manufacturers themselves, Triumph motorcycles, built at Meriden, were used by some British and mainly Commonwealth police forces until 1983 when the factory closed. The police version of the 6T Triumph Thunderbird was nicknamed the SAINT, an acronym of "Stops Anything In No Time".

The police were showing a lot of interest in the Commando and so Neale Shilton was recruited from Triumph to produce a Commando to police specifications. The end result was the 'Interpol' machine, which sold well to police forces, both at home and abroad.

Back in 1965, when artist Ed Ruscha was doing a lot of photography, he wouldn't have called himself a photographer. To be honest, he probably would have scoffed at the idea. His goal was to make books — and photographs were simply a means to that end. Born in 1937 in Omaha, Nebraska, Edward Ruscha was raised in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where his family moved in 1941. In 1956 he moved to Los Angeles to attend the Chouinard Art Institute, and had his first solo exhibition in 1963 at the Ferus Gallery. Source : www.npr.org

Donald Judd

Donald Clarence Judd (June 3, 1928 – February 12, 1994) was an American artist associated with minimalism (a term he nonetheless stridently disavowed). In his work, Judd sought autonomy and clarity for the constructed object and the space created by it, ultimately achieving a rigorously democratic presentation without compositional hierarchy. It created an outpouring of seemingly effervescent works that defied the term "minimalism". Nevertheless, he is generally considered the leading international exponent of "minimalism," and its most important theoretician through such seminal writings as "Specific Objects" (1964).

The chassis was built by John Anderson from Auckland in 2002. As close as it could be made, it is a direct copy of an outfit built and raced by Ted Milner ( Manchester, UK ) in 1973 and then raced by Jerry Frith from NZ from 1975 to 1977. It was raced as a 950 Norton by Jerry for a couple of years before having an 850cc motor put in it in 2004. It was then raced very successfully by John Blaymires (NZ) until purchased by Robert Hood and Pat Crawford from Whanganui NZ in 2006. Source : http://rrperformanceengineering.co.nz/

The Panhard VPS (Véhicule Patrouille SAS) had been selected by French Army to meet a requirement for a rapidly deployable vehicle capable of long-duration missions in extremes of climate. The VPS features longer range and compatibility with extreme climatic conditions. An armored floor provides anti-landmine protection to the crew. The VPS has a payload of 1,200 kg so it can perform a wide variety of missions. This vehicle illustrates Panhard's knowhow when it comes to converting vehicles in order to cater for very specific military requirements. The VPS is air transportable by C-160 Transall or C-130 Hercules.

Moto Guzzi 1953 500/4 GP by Phil Aynsley

Guzzi's 2nd attempt at a 500cc 4 cylinder GP bike was first shown at the Italian GP in 1952. The design was done outside the factory by Carlo Gianini (who was responsible for the original motor that eventually became the Gilera 500/4) and featured an unusual, longitudinally mounted inline four cylinder motor which was initially fitted with a mechanical/pneumatic fuel injection system. Final drive was by a shaft. While fast the bike suffered from being overly complex, having a high centre of gravity and a difficult gear change due to the shaft drive. The riders didn't like the bike and it only achieved two victories, both in non championship races. Carburettors replaced the injection system for 1954 as well as a dustbin fairing that incorporated pannier fuel tanks. This bike is fitted with the original fairing and carburettors. 55hp at 9,000rpm. Top speed of 230kph. Weight 145kg. Photographed in Northern Italy. 2013.

Bandit9 Nero Mark II

With the Nero Mark II, Bandit 9 were trying to create a motorcycle that was impossible categorize. It isn't a cafe racer, it isn't a bobber or a cruiser. Actually don't know what it is! But it's cool. Bandit 9 wanted to create a beautiful blend of vintage machinery with contemporary design. The Nero Mark II has kept the original 750 cc engine but it features a whole host of design upgrades over the original. The Nero Mark II is exceptionally flat and makes the rider look like he's sitting on air. The Nero Mark II has an elegantly minimalistic, aerodynamic tank and rear fender set. The shape of the bike tapers from every angle you look at it. The bike is so stripped down you have to look closely to see the details - the embedded brake light, the exposed fork suspensions, inverted brake/clutch levers, and solid steel foot and hand controls. The fork and handlebars are one single piece of metal, which makes the bike feel really responsive. And of course, the bike comes in its famously dark knight-esque matte black.

They started in 2007 with a cabinet and later they made a couple of toolboxes.

Customized Vintage Racing Motorcycle by Sebastian Errazuriz

Stripped down to its sculptural framework, Sebastian Errazuriz‘s customized vintage racing motorcycle combines functionality and fetish. ‘time lapse’ is a sleek aluminum and steel bike and every bit a fierce symbol of power and freedom, yet design details establish an artful and exquisite form. The dichotomy is relevant to the project’s core themes of fragility and fatality, an example of which is highlighted by a vibrantly colored taxidermy bird fitted inside a glass vestibule in the motor of the bike. The feathered species lies at the heart of the object, both physically and metaphorically acting as a symbol of the recognition of death. The motorcycle was produced by Worth Motorcycle Company and built by NYC Norton, and was made possible by the support of motorcycle collector John Magyar. a portion of the collected profits will be donated to worth motorcycle company, a nonprofit organization teaching New York city’s at-risk youth the art of vintage motorcycle restoration. The custom bike is being presented at Art Basel – Miami Beach from December 5th to 8th, 2013. Source : www.designboom.com
