Riedel Imme R100

The Imme R100 was a lightweight motorcycle produced from 1948 to 1951 by Riedel. The beauty of the machine is in it's sheer simplicity: due to constrained material and financial supplies, the front forks and swinging arm are single sided, the exhaust acting as the swinging arm member with the rear wheel being cantilevered with the engine, the tubing used for the frame, headstock, fork and arm are all the same 40mm diameter, the 3-speed hand change gearbox does not have a neutral position and the barrel and head for the 99cc engine producing 4.5BHP are one piece.

Oddly, first gear is in the middle of the shift pattern with second below and third above, with a mechanism to hold the clutch open when the engine idles in first. Norbert Riedel was able to secure materials for production from the americans after the war as the engine used in the R100 is the same as he designed to start the turbines on MeschMesserschmitt Me 262, which they were keen to acquire. Approximately 12,000 Immes were produced before the company folded in 1951, when a improved 150cc version was nearing production. Now rare and sought after machines this example was sold by Yesterdays recently.

Rolex Day-Date "Stella" dials

The Rolex "Stella" dial Day-Date was a watch produced for a short period during the 1970's. With their selection of brightly colour dials, as oppose to Rolexes more common sober offerings, including oxblood red, turquoise or green there are a number of stories as to where the name comes from including being inspired by the artist Frank Stella and coming from the latin for star due to the effect of the multiple layers of lacquer. They are now becoming increasingly hard to find in good condition with prices reflecting their scarcity. Images from 10 Past Ten.

Ong&Ong – M House in Singapore

ONG&ONG have designed the M House in Singapore.

Nestled in Bukit Timah, this home provides the ideal balance between the needs for family bonding as well as for personal space. Despite housing numerous bedrooms, communal areas are spacious with a double-volume void in the living area seamlessly unifying the two levels as a whole. Open, yet private, the louvres on the upper floor allow the family to alter the degree of privacy. While the material choices of fare-faced concrete, terrazzo and teak lean towards a Classic Modernist style, simple architectural elements comprise the various volumes of the house and are aligned for effective cross-ventilation in a tropical climate. With an edgeless pool encircling the home’s concrete façade, the result is a Zen-inspired imagery of tranquility.

The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride. This project started 13 months ago With Sydney Cafe Racers (Perth, Melbourne, Newcastle, Brisbane) it is their goal to bring the entire Australian Scene together and now its their goal to bring Cafe Racer enthusiasts together worldwide for this event. Organized in Biarritz by Enguerrand de Gouttes this first edition was really cool and for me the occasion to meet very nice guys who made the choice to be here : Julien Navarro, Seb Rigault, Imanol Gimenez from Spain and of course Enguerrand. Were following us my daughter Cosima and Xabi Barreneche with his girlfriend. The weather together with the road, the bikes and these Gentlemen really made my day and i warmly want to thanks Mark Hawwa the MC for this event and Enguerrand to make it happen here in the Basque Country. I'm sure next year we will be more ... but the quality is always better than the number.

Our WebWorld; a lot of us are spending a couple of minutes or hours everyday checking our favourite websites or blogs but who are behind them ? Most part of the time we dont really know. To find out what's going on behind the screen, i started a serie of portrait of the Men and Women who are making the blogosphere better, for this twenty ninth Portrait, i asked Chuka Umunna to go thru the Proust-Pivot-Lipton Questionnaire to let us know more about himself. Chuka is originally from Manchester, England and left for London as the music and club scenes were dying out. There, he encountered a group of friends obsessed by Classic British bikes. He quickly acquired a 1961 BSA A7, and on a Rockers Run to Brighton, he was startled as he was overtaken at 80 mph by a Triton doing over 100. The obsession was born! Here are his answers.

Don Quixote, fully titled The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha (Spanish: El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha), is a novel written by Miguel de Cervantes. The novel follows the adventures of Alonso Quijano, a hidalgo who reads so many chivalric novels, that he decides to set out to revive chivalry under the name of Don Quixote. He recruits a simple farmer, Sancho Panza, as his squire, who frequently deals with Don Quixote's rhetorical orations on antiquated knighthood with a unique, earthy wit. He is met by the world as it is, initiating themes like intertextuality, realism, metatheatre and literary representation. Published in two volumes a decade apart, in 1605 and 1615, Don Quixote is considered the most influential work of literature from the Spanish Golden Age and the entire Spanish literary canon. As a founding work of modern Western literature, and one of the earliest canonical novels, it regularly appears high on lists of the greatest works of fiction ever published. In one such list, Don Quixote was cited as the "best literary work ever written".
