The Rolex "Stella" dial Day-Date was a watch produced for a short period during the 1970's. With their selection of brightly colour dials, as oppose to Rolexes more common sober offerings, including oxblood red, turquoise or green there are a number of stories as to where the name comes from including being inspired by the artist Frank Stella and coming from the latin for star due to the effect of the multiple layers of lacquer.
